Over the years I have picked up quite a few tips and figured many out through experience. Lashing is a skill that I am very proud of but when I started lashing in 2009 the lash industry was in its infancy and there was very little advice or support, boy did I make mistakes, but I didn’t have a mentor to help or train with a company that offered support as we do here at KG Professional.
Lashing is a skill that doesn’t come overnight you have to work at it, just being a good lash artist isn’t the whole thing, it takes time and patience to build a business and client base, whether you are working from home or have your own salon, so if you want to be one of the best put in the groundwork, practice makes perfect, but learn from others as we all started where at the same place.
Here are a few eyelash application tips that I lash by and am happy to pass on, but remember these are just some handy tips, not ‘the process’.
25 Handy Eyelash Application Tips
- Prep before customer arrival, saves time
- Do a thorough lash consultation before you start and take a photograph before & after
- For new clients check patch test and note results for insurance purposes
- Check the customer doesn’t need to use the ladies before you start, time is money
- Check time with the client to make sure she knows how long the appointment will take; you can’t be expected to do a full set of volume in an hour
- Make the customer as comfortable as possible on the beauty bed
- If using tape, make sure you detac well, the warmth of her skin will make the tape stickier
- Check lash symmetry, where the lashes start and end on both eyes, check for gaps and lash amounts
- Clean the whole eye area, use a good primer
- Shake that glue for a good 45 seconds
- Always start on the most difficult eye first
- Work on the inner corners of the eyes first as this is the most challenging area of the eyes
- Map your set, make it easier on you when changing lengths
- Lift the lid when working with layers to check the lashes and placement throughout
- Check for stickies throughout the treatment and at the end
- Use your tape to lift and move skin or separate lashes, make it easy on yourself
- Have everything you need close at hand
- Check room humidity, if you are having trouble with your glue that may be the reason
- Keep an eye on time as talking distracts
- When removing the pads and tape carefully supporting the skin always
- Check the clients lashes for errors before you give her the mirror
- Remind the customer of the after care
- Upsell retail products such as lash shampoos, brushes, lash serums
- Book in her refill appointment
- For new clients follow up with a courtesy call or text the next day, shows excellent customer service
